Last week was a reminder that growth isn’t always loud or glamorous. Sometimes it looks like stretching beyond comfort, stepping into rooms you never imagined you’d be in, and holding your vision steady when everything around you is shifting.
I spent my days in conversation with investors, senators, and leaders who shape policies far bigger than any one business. These discussions weren’t easy—they were layered, nuanced, and often rooted in systems that were never designed for the kind of change we’re creating. But that’s the truth behind any movement: transformation doesn’t begin with an idea. It begins with courageous conversations.
And courage has a way of clarifying things.
When you’re redefining an industry, you learn quickly that you must articulate not only what you’re building, but why it has to exist. You have to speak your vision out loud, even when there’s no roadmap, no blueprint, and no one ahead of you to point the way.
Entrepreneurship brings a million new challenges every day. The to-do list shifts by the hour. For someone who thrives on structure, that can feel like chaos—but growth requires a new rhythm. A softer, more intuitive one. You learn to pivot without losing yourself. To lead even while you’re still learning. To trust that your intuition is data, too.
Growth at this level isn’t linear. It’s a mix of breakthroughs, roadblocks, and moments that stretch both your strategy and your heart. Some days feel electric. Other days feel heavy. But through it all, the vision has to stay bigger than the noise.
What keeps me grounded is remembering the deeper purpose behind The Hygienist Bar. This isn’t just a business model. It’s a movement. A new standard. A reimagined experience that gives people permission to see oral wellness—and themselves—through a different lens. And movements like this don’t come with instructions. You have to write them as you go.
So to every founder, dreamer, and change-maker walking your own path:
Prepare for the long game.
Surround yourself with people who challenge you and lift you higher.
Keep your vision close, your team closer, and your integrity closest of all.
Stay passionate. Have fun. Let the tears fall when they need to… then stand up and keep moving.
Because growth isn’t just about scaling something on the outside.
It’s about becoming the person capable of carrying the vision on the inside.
And that kind of growth never stops.
With gratitude,
Tonya Smith
