Ozone Water: Part of Your Oral Reset
We use ozone water before and during your professional cleaning. Understand its role alongside Guided Biofilm Therapy and personalized care.
We use ozone water for your pre-rinse and during professional cleaning, alongside assessment, Guided Biofilm Therapy, and personal guidance.
Here is how it fits into The Oral Reset and what the research says.
What is ozone water?
Ozone water is water containing dissolved ozone. Ozone is a form of oxygen with three oxygen atoms, rather than the two in the oxygen we normally breathe. In dental care, ozonated water is studied for its antimicrobial activity, meaning its ability to act against microorganisms under particular conditions.
The word “water” matters. Ozonated water, ozone gas, and ozonated oils are different applications. A study of one does not automatically tell us what another will do. The concentration, preparation, contact time, and way it is delivered also matter when interpreting a result.
Research has explored ozonated water in gum care, but treatment methods vary. A 2024 systematic review of ozonated water for gingivitis found mixed results and called for larger studies with standardized protocols. Its findings help explain why there is interest in the approach, while also showing why broad promises are inappropriate.
Why we include it in your cleaning
We use ozone water as an antimicrobial supporting step within our professional cleaning process. The pre-rinse introduces it before cleaning begins, and we also use ozone water during the cleaning. It is one part of the care you receive, alongside the hands-on work of your licensed dental hygienist.
That distinction is important. We are not asking you to choose between ozone water and a thorough cleaning. The Oral Reset brings the steps together. Your coach assesses your mouth, explains the care, and carries out the cleaning rather than relying on a rinse to do the work.
You are welcome to ask how ozone water is being used at your visit. Knowing what is happening can make an unfamiliar step easier to understand, particularly if previous appointments have felt rushed or left you unsure about the reason for a treatment.
From the pre-rinse to the cleaning itself
The pre-rinse is the part you may notice first, but it is not the whole role of ozone water in our process. We use ozone water during your cleaning as well. That is why we describe it as part of the cleaning experience, rather than simply a mouthwash offered beforehand.
Your hygienist can explain the application during your appointment. If you want to know what a particular tool is doing, ask before that step starts. If a sensation is unfamiliar or you need a pause, tell your coach. Understanding and comfort belong in the conversation throughout the visit.
The process is guided by your care needs. Tell us about your medical history, medications, previous reactions, and anything you are concerned about. Your own assessment matters more than assuming every guest needs an identical experience.
How it works alongside Guided Biofilm Therapy
Biofilm is the organized layer of microorganisms that builds up on tooth surfaces. A professional cleaning needs to address that buildup directly. Ozone water does not replace the physical removal of biofilm or hardened deposits.
The Oral Reset uses Guided Biofilm Therapy. We make biofilm visible so the areas needing attention can be identified. The cleaning uses air, warm water, ultra-fine erythritol powder, and precise ultrasonic instrumentation when needed. Ozone water is used within the cleaning process alongside that professional care.
The practical difference is that a rinse and a cleaning have different jobs. Antimicrobial activity under certain conditions is not the same thing as removing every deposit from a tooth. Your hygienist still needs to assess the areas being treated and use the appropriate cleaning methods.
When you ask what makes our cleaning different, the answer is the complete process: the assessment, the way we address biofilm, the use of ozone water, the time for questions, and the personal guidance you leave with. No single ingredient tells the whole story.
What the research can tell us
Ozone has been investigated as an addition to nonsurgical gum treatment. Some studies report benefits, while others do not show an additional improvement over professional treatment alone. Results depend on the application and the outcomes being measured.
A 2020 systematic review and meta-analysis did not find a significant added benefit from ozone in the periodontal treatment studies it analyzed. This is a useful reminder that antimicrobial potential does not automatically establish better clinical outcomes for every use.
Research involving repeated treatment or irrigation around affected gums also cannot be treated as proof of what one pre-rinse will achieve. For a guest, the meaningful question is how the step fits into professional care for their own mouth.
We include ozone water in our process without promising that it will cure gum disease, prevent every cavity, or replace treatment from a dentist or specialist. The cleaning, assessment, home-care plan, and appropriate follow-up remain central to your care.
Your oral environment is personal
Your mouth is not an empty space that needs to be made completely free of bacteria. It contains a community of microorganisms. Understanding your oral environment means considering the findings from your assessment and how they relate to the care you need.
At The Hygienist Bar, the cleaning checklist includes saliva pH testing and microscope assessment of oral bacteria. These are parts of a broader conversation with your coach. They do not mean we can promise a rinse will permanently “reset” your microbiome or selectively remove only unwanted organisms.
DECODE³²™ kits will be available soon. Testing is separate from your cleaning and is not required for any service. You can book the care you need now.
The rest of your Oral Reset matters too
The Oral Reset is our 60 to 90 minute professional cleaning experience, priced at $222. Ozone water is part of a visit that also gives you time to understand what your hygienist finds and what your next steps should be.
Our full cleaning checklist includes a medical-history review, blood pressure check, saliva pH testing, microscope assessment, head and neck exam, gum measurements, and progress tracking. It also includes Guided Biofilm Therapy, an ozone pre-rinse, personalized recommendations, and comfort options.
Your licensed Oral Health Wellness Coach can explain which findings need attention, what you can work on at home, and when another professional’s assessment is needed. You should leave understanding your care rather than remembering only the name of a product or technique.
Our preventive care works alongside your dentist. A cleaning appointment does not replace dental examinations, diagnosis, or treatment that belongs with a dentist or specialist. If that is the appropriate next step, your plan should make it clear.
A report and a plan you can use after you leave
Your visit includes a personalized take-home report. It gives you something to refer to when you are back in your everyday routine, rather than expecting you to remember every conversation from the appointment.
Ask your coach to explain what the findings mean and which recommendations are most relevant to you. If a home-care tool is difficult to use, say so. If you need a demonstration or a simpler starting point, that belongs in the discussion.
Your next cleaning is based on your own assessment, care needs, and progress. We do not assume that one fixed schedule fits every guest. The timing should have a reason you understand, and it can be discussed as your needs change.
The ozone water used during your visit is one part of that professional care. The plan you follow between appointments is another. Understanding both helps you see the cleaning as an ongoing process of prevention and support.
Questions worth bringing to your visit
You do not need technical knowledge to ask useful questions. Start with what you want to understand:
- How will ozone water be used during my cleaning?
- What are you finding in my mouth today?
- Which parts of the cleaning address those findings?
- What should I focus on at home?
- What will my report include, and when should I return?
If something you read elsewhere seems different from what you hear at your appointment, bring it up. Terms such as “ozone therapy” can refer to quite different applications. Your coach can explain the actual care you are receiving rather than leaving you to compare unlike treatments.
Comparing your cleaning with another appointment
If you are deciding whether to change where you receive your cleanings, use the checklist to ask specific questions. Find out what is included, how the cleaning is performed, whether there is time to discuss findings, and what information you will leave with. Knowing those details is more useful than comparing two appointments by name alone.
You can take our checklist to your current provider and ask about any differences. A different approach deserves an explanation, rather than an assumption that every practice offers the same process. Ozone water is one detail to discuss, alongside the assessment, biofilm removal, comfort options, and personal follow-up. The aim is to understand the care you are receiving and make an informed choice for yourself.
Common questions about ozone water
Is it only used before the cleaning?
No. At The Hygienist Bar, we use ozone water for the pre-rinse and during your professional cleaning. It is part of the process, not just the opening step.
Does it replace the cleaning?
No. Guided Biofilm Therapy and appropriate instrumentation still do the physical cleaning work. Ozone water is used alongside that care.
Will it cure gum disease?
We do not make that promise. Gum concerns need an individual assessment and an appropriate care plan. Ozone water is a supporting part of our process, not a substitute for necessary treatment.
Do I need to buy an ozone device for home?
You do not need to buy a home ozone device to book The Oral Reset. Discuss any products or devices you are considering with your coach so your home routine fits your needs.
Can I ask to discuss the rinse before we begin?
Yes. Tell your coach about your concerns and ask for an explanation before the step starts. Your comfort and understanding matter throughout the appointment.
